Spread the Word About Hostels

Tell a friend and spread the word. This is a common saying that can make a huge impact to a wide range of things, from a surprise party, special event, sale bargain, cool place to visit or cheap hostel accommodation.
Word of mouth and having positive feedback from customers can make or break a business, a lot of the time when customer have a good experience, they don’t take the time to spread the word and let other know they enjoyed their stay in a certain Hostel or that there are bargains to be had.
But when something goes wrong, you won’t hear the last about the whole story from a to z, every opportunity is used to tell people what happened.
Its time we all begin to use as much energy, to spread the word about good things, just as much as bad experiences or service, after all we all like to be praised and told we have done a good job.
When it comes to Hostels & budget accommodation many people have a lot of preconceptions and bias ideas of what to expect, coupled with a few bad reviews online for a few Hostels, a lot of people just steer clear of staying at Hostels.
This means that many travellers and holiday makers are paying more for their holiday accommodation than need be and hostels gain a bad reputation because of a few hostels that fall below standard.
Just like any other type of accommodation from Hotels, bed and breakfast, guesthouse or Hostels accommodation, each location needs to be assessed on its own merits, this means researching online, remembering to take into account that just like Hotels different hostels accommodation have different standards.

A hostel in Kowloon will not be the same as hostels in London and youth hostels in Rome but they will all have good and bad points that need to be considered when deciding if they are the right accommodation to stay in.
The same criteria can be used to asses any type of accommodation, some of the main points to think about are
Assessing potential accommodation suitability
Price
Room Type
Location
Transportation Links
Facilities
Services
Take your time to look around and choose an accommodation to suit your budget and taste, but don’t rule out any accommodation type, until you take the time to assess the accommodation for yourself and form your own opinion.

Hostel Life - Things You Need To know
If you are traveling for your first time, or you just haven’t had that much experience with hostels, they can be a little intimidating. But do not fret; any true traveler will fit into the atmosphere and the situation easily. But here are a few things that might help you get yourself prepared for hostel life.
Protect yourself and your possessions. Take a lock with you because not every hostel provides lockers with locks, and know the code so you don’t have to worry about losing the key. If you’re going for long periods of time (especially if you’re not traveling alone) and you’re investing in food, something to consider carrying is a cooler bag. Even when you’re not carrying food, you can use it to keep your water cool.
When purchasing food, consider the staples. Fruit, veggies, nuts, and breads are some of the easiest to keep and to carry. Plus, hostel kitchens often have food items that have been left behind (ie oil, jam, or peanut butter). Make sure you have something to carry water in for time spent in the hostel and on days out. Breakfasts are often provided and if they are, take full advantage.
Use the hostel as part of your social network. Remember that you have at least one thing in common with every person you meet in your travels, and that is that they enjoy traveling too. Diving into the hostel situation will provide you with a greater insight of the area you are in. Ask others around you where they’ve been. Find out what’s good, what places to avoid, and what you need to know about where you are. Combine your days out with other people. And getting together to make meals will cost you less in the long run.
If you are planning on being in one spot for a period of time, consider working for the hostel in exchange for your stay. Two hours a day washing linens can take you pretty far when you’re on a budget. Don’t stress, you’ll do just fine.
